Layers of Surface

Bleach on Turkish Fabric, 2017

Layers of Surface is a series of pieces made using bleach and oil on fabric. The work was created during the Every Me art residency in 2017. Inspired by marbling techniques I used materials found locally to produce the final images, rather than the traditional adding of colour the bleach removed colour from the died fabric. I am interested in the familiar materials that are common to daily life, applying them in unfamiliar ways.

Every Me is an art residency curated by Mustafa Boğa in Adana, Turkey. The residency is a collaboration between local life and visiting artists and examines how experiences that come from culture, education, lifestyles, and religion can be explored and interpreted through visual and expressive language.
